Heisuke Kitazawa

Heisuke Kitazawa mostly does illustrations. Mostly CD covers and book illustrations.

He uses simple shapes with not a lot of detail, but there is still a lot going on around everything.

I like this because there is not a lot of detail in his shapes and figures. I'm not a fan of doing detail myself and its nice to see someone fell like he has to make every single petal on every flower or every line in a piece of wood or even put a face on a person.

I found Kitazawa on our field trip to the MOCA the other day. We were wondering around looking for food and got to this little plaza and at the entrance there was a little sign with a bunch of his work asking the reading to go on a search for each piece around the plaza. I thought it was pretty neat and would like to go back one day and try to find them.

Hes a video game designer, illustrator, manga artist and director.
He is mostly know for his work on the Pokemon series.
He has done some of the original artwork for Pokemon games and movies and show.

He also did some of the Pokemon cards.
He has worked on other things but his biggest is Pokemon.

I really loved the games and the shows growing up and its nice to know about one of the people behind the creation of it. His characters and creatures are adorable and interesting looking. Nothing ever looks too scary and I like that.

Camilla d'Errico

This is Camilla d'Errico

Camilla is a cartoonist who loves to draw. She has worked with many popular companies that include Disney, Hasbro, Sanrio, Random House and Darkhorse comics, just to name a few.

I like her use of colors and how she has the main object in the picture, and then piles things onto that, like an octopus and/or a helmet. There is so much to look at in most of her paintings.

She also makes comics.
This is her wedsite with many more interesting and slightly eerie looking paintings and illustrations from Camilla d'Errico.

Bruce Timm

Bruce Timm is a comic book artist. He is most known for his work with Warner Brothers on Tiny Toons, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League and Teen Titans. He was the producer and co-creator for most of the shows and did character design for all.

With The help of Paul Dini, Timm has also brought new characters into the Batman world, such as Harley Quinn. A little creation of Timm and Dini's that is now a big player in Gotham.

Timm focuses mostly on female cartoon characters with the occasional male, drawing anyone from an old school Catwoman to a web slinging Spiderman to even a few drawings of Sailor Moon. He doesn't usually deviate from their original design, just draws them in his style. You can usually tell its his by the cat/slit like eyes, the "all one piece"hair, the pointy and delicate looking(for girls) hands and the lips which look the same on most character.

I always enjoyed Tiny Toons and Batman: The Animated Series and it wasn't until last year that I found out who the guy was behind most of the animation. I like his style and his use of highlights. It turns the complete black costumes into something more interesting to look at by using highlights like crazy. He makes it shine. Like the lips as I mentioned earlier. Every one has has a little spot of shine that brings your attention to that spot.

Except for Batman. He has no lips.

Takashi Murakami

This is Takashi Murikami

Murikami is an artists, sculpter and a digital artist. He uses a style called he calls superflat. Superflat pretty much means two dimensional. It focuses on the pop culture of japan and is influenced by the flatness of Japanese media.

Tan Tan Bo Puking - a.k.a. Gero Tan

Murikami's work has been seen through Louis Vuitton ads and Kanye West album art. Hes has exhibits in the MOCA.

I like this kind of style. Its very colorful, exciting and cute. I like how Murikami uses his many creatures in most of his art, and with the busyness of each of his pieces there is always something to look at.

Chris Sanders

This is Chris Sanders.
He is an animator, writer, director and voice actor, but I am going to focus on the animation part.

He has worked on many movies, mostly Disney, such as Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers Down Under, Fantasia 2000, Lion King, Mulan, How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo and Stitch. For the last two he actually did the animation. He directed Lilo and Stitch and is also the voice of Stitch.

Most of his drawings are very rounded. Giving each character a very cute and innocent look and feel. Even though most of the time the women that he draws are not fully clothed. His drawings usually take place in a water or beach like setting, as seen in the picture below.

I chose this artist because ever since I saw the movie Lilo and Stitch I have been interested in the art work. It wasn't until I saw it again in How to Train Your Dragon that I actually looked him up.

The art of Hayao Miyazaki

This is Hayao Miyazaki

Miyazaki is a Japanese film maker, animator and manga artist. He's best known for his films Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and many more.

He started off as an animator with Toei Animation Studios. He eventually ended up making his first film, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, which was based on a manga that he started a few years before. This led to the opening of Studio Ghibli where he now directs, produces and writes most of the films.

Miyazaki story board all his films before hand by hand, himself, using a yellow pencil.

He usually has a strong female lead which is what draws me to his films and his work. His stories aren't filled with blood guts and war, but they still include an exciting adventure. In a new and different world. He fills these worlds with colors and weird creatures who can sometimes be dangerous. There is also a sense of innocence and playfulness to his films sometimes that i also really enjoy. :)
